Hi, there is a plugin called Timeismoney wich works like an ATM. You basically just play and for the time you are online (and not afk) you can redeem some money from an "ATM". For example if someone plays for like 1 hour, they can go to the ATM and redeem some cash, the longer you play the more money you get. I used this on another server i was staff on and it worked pretty well. Im not sure if this plugin is updated to 1.8 though but i can look for another plugin similar to this if you like this.
